Agnes M. Klein was born on May 17, 1922 in Sterling, Nebraska to Henry and Elizabeth (Boden) Weyers. She passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, three months, and one day.
She grew up in the Sterling and Burr area, where she was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sterling, Nebraska. Growing up she attended several rural grade schools including the parochial Immanuel School and Saunders Creek. She graduated in 1940 from Burr High School. Following graduation she attended Lincoln School of Commerce.
Agnes was united in marriage to Arnold Klein on March 21, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Together they were blessed with two daughters, Janice and Carolyn.
They made their home in rural Burr, where she worked on the farm alongside her husband as well as being employed as a bookkeeper for 20 years at Burr Farmers Coop. She was a longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church in Burr where she served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the church council, and was active in the quilting group.
Family was an important part of Agnes's life, especially time spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, gardening and attending her grandchildren's activities.
She is survived by her daughters: Janice (John) Beethe of Burr, NE; Carolyn (Bill) Volkmer of Syracuse, NE; Grandchildren: Lori (Jess) Kirchhoff, of Syracuse, Scott (Lona) Watermeier, of Burr, Lisa Watermeier, of Omaha, Lyndsey (Bill) Pohlmeier, of Edgar, Jennifer (Jason) Sabatka of Wahoo, Andrew (Melissa) Volkmer of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas (Ellie) Volkmer of Syracuse; Six Great-Grandchildren; Sisters: Marge (Charles) Rader, of Waverly, Bette (Floyd) Headley, of Lincoln; Brothers: Gilbert (Velma) Weyers of Bennet, Larry (Lois) Weyers, of De Pere, WI; Sisters-in-law: Ilene Saathoff of Adams, Leta Steinkuhler of Unadilla. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, son-in-law Steve Watermeier, brother Mylon Weyers and sister Maxine Steinkuhler.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 21 at 2:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, NE. Burial will be at Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday August 20 from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
