Alvina Steinhoff Thormahlen was born to Louis and Sophie Ehlers Steinhoff on June 24, 1913 at Syracuse, Nebraska. She entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 94 years, 5 Monhs and 1 day.
Alvina married Herman J. Thormahlen on October 9, 1941 at the First Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Nebraska. They enjoyed their time on the farm. She was a wonderful farm wife. She loved to embroider, grow violets and cook. She baked many delicious items, but cream pies were a specialty. After Herman and Alvina moved to town, the light in the quilting room was on many long nights. Herman and Alvina were each other's best friends. She took care of him as his health failed and really missed him when he died in 1991.
Near relatives surviving include 2 sisters, Mrs. Esther Wessel and husband Kenneth of Avoca, NE and Mrs. Lorene Rosenthal of Johnson, NE; Alvina is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Alvina was preceded in death by her husband Herman on July 22, 1991, brothers John and Warren and sister Gladys and husband James Warren.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NE with Rev. Paul Coen officiating.
Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, NE.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 27th from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM and Wednesday, November 28th from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM.
Memorials may be directed to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Syracuse Rescue or the Good Samaritan Center all in Syracuse.
