Anna Margaret Steinkuhler Stutheit was born on October 15, 1908 on the family farm in Otoe County near Burr, Nebraska, one of nine children of August and Ella (Miller) Steinkuhler. She was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church, attended Sunday School and was confirmed at Hope Lutheran. She attended rural Otoe county grade School. In 1918 a tragic car accident claimed the life of her father and brother Paul. She was employed as the Central Operator for the Burr telephone exchange.
She married Walter Stutheit and six children were born to them. They farmed in the Helena Church community, where she was active in the St. Paul's Church. The family moved to the Cook area in 1963.
She died on September 25, 2009 at the Echo Hills Nursing Home in Omaha, where she had resided fro some years, having celebrated her 100th birthday there. She reached the age of 100 years, 11 months and 10 days.
She is survived by her five children and their families: Shirley Krejci and husband Al of Schuyler, NE; Harlan Stutheit and wife Barb of Atchison, KS; Roy Stutheit and wife Carolyn of Huntersville, NC; Sharon Comstock and husband Norman of Hiram, GA and Mark Stutheit of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Maxine Steinkuhler, Leta Klein and Wila Jean Stutheit, a brother-in-law, Reinhold Stutheit and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Walter, a daughter, Sylvia Stutheit, sisters, Eda Eisenhauer, Lydia Kreifels and Edna Haack, brothers, William, Paul, August, Elmer and Ervin Steinkuhler.
Anna always put her family first and wished that all of her children would have a college education. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, everything outdoors especially the trees, cooking family dinners for her children and their families, and reading was a favorite pastime of hers.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, Nebraska with Rev. Steve Billington officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, September 28th from 11 AM until 9 PM with family greeting friends from 5 – 7 PM at the Funeral Home and Tuesday, September 29th from 9 – 11 AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be in the Helena Cemetery in Rural Cook, Nebraska.
