Avis Hespen, 95, of Syracuse, departed this life to her heavenly home on Dec. 11, 2014. Born on the farm near Sterling, NE to William and Mary Umphres on June 9, 1919. She attended school in Douglas. She was married to Ernest "Pete" Hespen. She was a homemaker. She lived all her married life and after her husbands death in Syracuse. After she had a stroke in Nov. 2002, she went to live at the Good Samaritan nursing home in March 2003.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws: Marlene & John Harms, Mary & Frank Beach, Billie & James Caples; son & daughter-in-law: Walter & Dora Hespen; 13 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 1 & 1 expected in Jan. great-great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband in 1984, 3 brothers and 1 infant brother, parents, 1 son-in-law, 1 grandchild and 1 sister-in-law.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
