Barbara "Barb" A. Cochrane, 82, of Bennet, passed away on June 26, 2024, at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln. Born on June 4th, 1942, to Ed and Alice (Lintt) Land in Lincoln, Barb discovered her lifelong passion for horses at the age of 11 when she received her first horse, Champ. Her love for horses led her to participate in barrel racing at a young age, creating many cherished memories.
On February 17th, 1962, Barb married Al Cochrane at the Methodist Church in Greenwood, NE. They shared a remarkable 62 years together. Barb worked for Metromail/Experian in Lincoln for 32 years, but her heart truly belonged to the farm. She and Al worked side by side, handling all the farm chores, from bailing hay to tending cattle, epitomizing the spirit of hard work and dedication.
She was actively involved in the Bennet/Palmyra Rough Riders as a youth and later with the Bennet 4-H group with her children, Christine and Wayne, and continued her involvement when her grandchildren and great-grandchildren joined. Additionally, she led youth groups at church, organizing numerous outings and activities. Barb enjoyed riding her Harley-Davidson trike after retirement and shared many travel adventures with Al. Her community involvement also extended to the Bennet Area Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband Al Cochrane; children Christine Cochrane & Wayne (Donna) Cochrane; grandchildren & great grandchildren Kyle (Sarah) Smith & child Evelynn, Jessalyn (David) Petta & children Cody, Ryker and Zoey, Koal Donaldson, Alyson Donaldson, Trevor Cochrane, Kyle (Heidi) Schmieg & children Mackenzie and Riley, Cassie (Ryan) Yungers & child Tatum, close friend Carmen Cochrane; siblings Louise (Gerald) Vedder & Jim Land; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carolyn Fox.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 2nd at 10 a.m. at the Bennet Cemetery in Bennet, NE.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1st with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to the Palmyra Presbyterian Church or American Cancer Society.
