IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara "Barb"
R. Fey
March 2, 1928 – May 13, 2025
Barbara "Barb" R. Fey, 97 of Palmyra, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, fulfilling her wish to spend her final few months at home on the farm. She was born on March 2, 1928, in Unadilla to Charles & Margaret (McKee) Clark. She spent her early years learning in a one-room country schoolhouse, before moving to Los Angeles, where she graduated from Susan Miller Dorsey High School in 1945. She later attended Peru State College, earning her teaching certificate during a summer session. After receiving her certificate, she taught in a country school for a couple years.
On March 28, 1947, she married Robert "Bob" Fey at the Unadilla Methodist Church. Barb worked at the Post Office in Palmyra for 30 years, 10 of those as Postmaster, retiring in 1989. Together Barb and Bob owned a trucking company, and she drove trucks for 17 years. She was also a dedicated farm wife and school bus driver for Palmyra.
Barb was a faithful member of the Palmyra Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder for six years and was active in the Mariner Group. Her love for her community extended into her involvement in the Better Halves Extension Club, Palmyra Action League, Rough Riders, Red Hats, 4-H, and the National League of Postmasters. Barb was also a 68-year breast cancer survivor, a testament to her strength. She traveled to Europe five times with Bob and spent ten fulfilling years at The Legacy in Lincoln, engaging in many activities and making lasting friendships.
Barb had many hobbies, including camping and counted cross-stitching quilts, several of which won at the Otoe County Fair. She especially enjoyed helping Bob with wood carving competitions, skillfully staging his works for presentation.
She is survived by her daughters: L. Gail (Ed) Wurtele, Valerie J. (Bruce) Sturdy, Pamela J. (Lyle) Eisenhauer; grandchildren: Ben (Mandi) Boehm, Tanya (Tom) Behrends, Amber (Tim) Roberts, Travis Sturdy & Lacie Sturdy, Kelly (Tim) Quinn, Katie (Sean Flowerday) Bolz; Great Grandchildren: Britney (Mark) Seeley, Bret & Lily Boehm, Mikayla (Lane) Robinson, Alysa and Grace Myers, Kaysen and Tinley Sturdy, Michael Flowerday; great great grandchildren: Brooks & Brexlee Seeley, Harper & Tatum Boehm, Leighton Robinson.
