Betty J. Rippe, 94 of Syracuse NE, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2021 in Lincoln, NE.
Betty J. Rippe was born on September 29, 1926 to Edward and Ida (Mouden) Gess on the family farm south of Dunbar, NE. She was raised on the farm and started her education at Dunbar schools, later graduating from Nebraska City High School.
Betty married Raymond Rippe on September 4, 1948 at the Presbyterian Church in Dunbar. Together, they made their home near Avoca and through this union, they welcomed three children: Susan, Steve, and Janis. Later on, Betty and Raymond moved to Syracuse.
Betty was a farm wife and mother for many years in rural Avoca. Once her children were grown, she started working for Bankers Life in Lincoln and retired from there after 23 years. After retirement she worked at the Syracuse Senior Center. Betty was also an active member of First Lutheran Church (North Branch) and helped with typing bulletins and singing in the choir.
Betty had many hobbies. She kept busy by quilting, playing Pinochle and Hand & Foot Canasta with her card group, attending coffee club, as well as spending time with her family. Betty and her husband Ray, enjoyed listening and dancing to Big Band music. Betty was a wonderful baker with her specialties being Danish pastries, raisin cream pie and chocolate chip cookies. She was an avid Husker fan and loved watching professional golf.
She is survived by her Children: Sue (Gary) Voss of Lincoln, Steve (Anna) Rippe of Denver, Jan (Jim) Niebuhr of Dunbar; Grandchildren: Beth Voss, Megan (Andrew) Hinrichs, Kerenza (Tait) Rowley, Ian Rippe, Alec Rippe, Emily (Doug) Iske, Kate (Shaun) Harris, Jon (Kay) Niebuhr; 12 Great Grandchildren; Brother: Charles (Jackie) Gess of Lincoln; Sisters-in-law: Leora Emshoff and Elaine Hennings both of Omaha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sisters: Gladys, Florence, Arlene and Billie.
Public funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca. The service will be radio broadcast in the parking lot on 90.9 and live streamed on the Fusselman Facebook page.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 29 from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
