Birdean M. Young, 82, of Syracuse, passed away on August 24, 2026, at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born on February 15, 1944, to Herman and Delores (Winters) Wilken at their home near Burr. Birdean graduated from Syracuse High School with the class of 1961.

On May 28, 1965, Birdean was united in marriage to Dale Young at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse. Together, they made their home on the farm, where Birdean worked alongside Dale. She also worked at First National Bank in Syracuse for more than 30 years, holding various positions throughout her career.

Family was especially important to Birdean. While her boys were growing up, she never missed a sporting event they participated in and was always there to cheer them on. She was also active in the Syracuse American Legion Auxiliary and the Women’s Group at church. In her free time, Birdean enjoyed golfing and spending time with family and friends.

Birdean is survived by her husband, Dale Young; sons, Todd (Dana) Young and Marty (Jill) Young; grandchildren, Riley Young, Gabi Young, and Lily Young.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Delores Wilken; brother, Herman Wilken; and sister, Darlene.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Fusselman Facebook page. Burial will take place prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. at Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the Syracuse Rescue Squad.
