Carol Louise Rystrom, 90 of Lincoln, passed away on April 24, 2025 at GracePointe Assisted Living in Lincoln. She was born March 23, 1935 the second daughter of Harry Conrad Tegelhutter and Wilma Louise Roettger in Syracuse, Nebraska. Baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Graduated from Syracuse, she earned an associate degree in Education at Peru State Teachers College while teaching country school. She married Allan Young in 1955 and was a loving mother of two children, Jay and Julie. In 1984, she married Ronald A. Rystrom, adding bonus children Rick and Marcy. Satisfying her desire of learning she graduated from the University of Omaha in 1991. On Ron's retirement they moved to Stromsburg, Nebraska where she worked for The Polk County News. After Ron's death in 2000, she moved to Lincoln to be closer to family. Then stared another career working at Sew Creative quilt shop! Avid reader, hobbyist, and quilter. Loved to visit "coffee" & play bridge. Most importantly in her life were her kids and family as mom, grandma and GiGi! Member of Horizons Community Church, American Legion Auxiliary, The Vintage Quilters and many volunteer organizations.
Preceded in death by parents, husband Ron and brother-in-law Gene Watermeier.
Survived by her children Jay (Denise) Young of Syracuse, Julie Berger of Lincoln; step-daughter, Marcy (Scott) Wilson of Indianola; step-son Rick Rystrom of Gretna; grandchildren Christopher (Lenore) Berger, Hillary Berger both of Lincoln, Sammy Jo (Scott) Olson of Omaha; step-grandchildren Matt Wilson of Winter Park, CO, Sebastian & Jenni Soldwich of Denver, CO; great granddaughter Alice Berger of Lincoln, Eliza & Carson Olson of Omaha; sister Lois Watermeier of Syracuse; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 2 p.m. at Horizons Community Church, 3200 Grainger Parkway, Lincoln, NE. The service will be livestreamed on the church YouTube page. Cookies and coffee will be served after service. A private burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2 from noon until 8 pm with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
