Charlene Ried, 93 of Syracuse, passed away on January 28, 2018 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born on October 14, 1924 to Henry & Edith (Nutzman) Maseman in Bertrand, NE.
She married Walter Halm on May 9, 1945 in Syracuse and to this union they had Cheryl, Linda, Joyce, Susan, Karen and Shelley. Together they worked on the farm and played in the Western Hillbillies band. Walter passed away in 1976. Charlene later married Arnold Fass and Merle Ried.
Charlene worked at the sewing factory, Good Samaritan Society and did home health all in Syracuse. She loved music and played the piano and sang by ear. She was also inducted into the Iowa country music hall of fame. Charlene was a member of the Music Makers in Weeping Water.
Survived By: Daughters: Cheryl (Jim) Pierce of Syracuse, Linda (Gene) Versaw of Lincoln, Joyce (John) Ekstein of Otoe, Susan (Bob) Breeling of Cook, Karen (Gary) Pierce of Lincoln, Shelley (Ken) Davis of Mound City, MO; Grandchildren: Mindy King, Jeff Chromy, Michelle Johnson, Jessica Ekstein, Jeremy Ekstein, Matthew Pierce, Samuel Pierce, Kenny Lee Davis; Step-Grandchildren: Glen Versaw, Martin Versaw, Kim, Jon, Gary, Julie, Susan, Todd and Shane Pierce; Great Grandchildren: Collin & Andrew Johnson, John Conley II, Wade & Madison King; 20 Step-Great Grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husbands: Walter Halm, Arnold Fass, and Merle Ried, Granddaughters: Kelsey & Kaley Davis; Brothers: Phillip, John, Stuart and Richard Maseman; Sisters: Marilyn Schroder, June Nutter and Nadine Maseman.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ in Syracuse. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 30 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society – Syracuse.
