Charles LaVern Nickel was born December 14, 1938, at home in Elmwood, to LaVern & Wilma (Stege) Nickel. He passed away at his home on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age the age of 71 years, and 7 days.

Charles married Barbara, on April 23, 1960, in Manley. He was a member of the Elmwood Lions Club, and enjoyed fishing, camping, wood working, and loved being around Family & Friends.

Charles is survived by his daughter Charlene & husband David Hines, of Brookfield, MO, son James & wife Rochelle Nickel, of Malcom, NE, and daughter Lisa Nickel, of Elmwood, NE, 8 grandchildren, Lynn & husband Joe Turner, Julia Cash, Spencer Hines, Becky & husband Jake Vrvka, Mark Nickel, Tyler Nickel, Destiny Nickel, Rick Nickel, and A.J. Nickel, 7 great grandkids and Barbara Nickel, along with many friends.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents LaVern & Wilma Nickel, son Thomas, daughter Melissa, and great grandson Carter.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at St Paul United Methodist Church, in Elmwood, Nebraska. Family suggest Memorial to the Elmwood Rescue Squad.

Visitation will be Monday from 1 until 9 P.M., with family greeting friends from 7 until 9 P.M..
