Charles William Wander, 82 of Nebraska City formerly Syracuse, passed away on October 22, 2017 at Morton Place in Nebraska City. He was born on May 24, 1935 to William & Delpha (Bates) Wander in Avoca, NE. Charles married Dorothy Schanot on May 22, 1955 in Union, NE.

Charles had many trades including plumbing, heating, air conditioning installer & tinner. He worked in Nebraska City, Denver, CO, Lincoln and owned his own plumbing & heating business in Syracuse in the 1960's. He also served as a part time policeman in Syracuse and worked at Wheaton's. Charles was also a charter member of the Syracuse rescue squad and member of the Syracuse volunteer fire dept. for 17 years.

Charles was very active in the community. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge-Syracuse. He also was a past member of Tangier Shrine Center-Omaha, Arbor Shrine Club-Nebraska City and Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. He enjoyed classic country music, singing and playing a dobro. Charles and Dorothy attended many country music festivals & jams in NE, IA, and TX and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by his sons: Dwight (Sharon) Wander of Syracuse, Mark (Arlene) Wander of Lincoln, Brad (Diana) Wander of Houston, TX, Chris (Brenda) Wander of Colleyville, TX; Grandchildren: Jeremy (Amy) Wander, Nichole (Josh) Hurst, Nathan (Courtney), April Wander, Mitchell (Morgan) Wander, Matt Wander, Hayden Wander, Alex Wander, Kayla Wander; and many Great Grandchildren. Sister-in-law: Susie Schanot; Sister-in-law & Brother-in-law: Bill & Joyce Johnson and his beloved dog Daisy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, granddaughter: Nicole, brother & sister-in-law: Joy & Betty Wander and brother-in-law: Richard Schanot.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 2:30 P.M. at the Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Chapel in Syracuse. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
