Obituary

Clarence V. Horner was born on April 10, 1920 near Otoe, Nebraska to John Chauncey and Julia Ann (Beason) Horner. He passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at Community Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 10 months and 27 days.

He was raised in the area surrounding Otoe, Nebraska, after graduating from High School; he attended one year of college at the University of Nebraska. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during World War II. It was during his time in the military that he met Mary Cokinos, and after a courtship, they were married on December 10, 1944 in Perry, Florida. Throughout his life he worked as a Instructor Pilot, primarily training military pilots in both the Army and Air Force.

He was a member of the Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion in Syracuse, Nebraska.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Horner of Otoe, Nebraska, daughters, Risa Horner Harris and husband Jerry of Longview, Texas, Martha Horner Cummins and husband Cameron of Tulsa, Oklahoma, son, John Chauncey Horner II and wife Catherine of Syracuse, Nebraska, grandchildren, Shannon VanStroud, James M. Singleton V, Jason James Lanier, John Chauncey Horner III, Jacob Daniel Horner, great grandchildren, Mattison Anne Caldwell and Timothy Martin Caldwell, sister, Betty Gilfert of Otoe, Nebraska, and niece, Janis Haase of Houston, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin Horner and Willard Horner.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Otoe, Nebraska with Rev. Stanley Floth and PMA Lynette Janssen officiating.

Burial will be in the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse or the American Heart Association.
