C.M. Petersen was born May 11, 1930 to Chris and Helen (Baumgarten) Petersen, in Union, Nebraska. He passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse on Tuesday April 4, 2017, at the age 86 years, 10 months, and 24 days.
C.M. served in the Army from 1953-1954. He then married Phyllis Gunn on April 23, 1955, in Avoca, Nebraska. C.M. worked at American Meter for over 30 years, but his true love was farming. He was on the Community Memorial Hospital board, and a member of the Scottish Rites and Syracuse VFW. In retirement he enjoyed seeing his nephews and great nephews on the farm and helping at harvest time.
He is survived by sisters-in-law Lois Wellman and Marcia Daffer, both of Syracuse, along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews, also many friends.
C.M. is preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, sister Ramona Balfour, and sister-in-law Pansy Berner, bothers-in-law Paul Berner, Kent Balfour, Raymond Wellman, and Alvin Wright.
Funeral services will be Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 511 7 th Street, Syracuse, Nebraska with the Graveside to be at 2:00 P.M. at Lincoln Memorial Park, 6800 South 14 th , Lincoln, Nebraska.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 9 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. The family suggests memorials to St. John's United Church of Christ or Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital Foundation Building Fund.
