Curtis Kent Cheney, 71 of Bennet, NE passed away suddenly on January 1, 2023. He was born in Lincoln, NE to Clement and Alene (Brinkman) Cheney on October 12, 1951.
Curt married Veva Richardson on June 8, 1974 at the United Church of Christ in Lincoln, NE. Two children were born to this family; Brian and Tim. Their children, Everlee, Bryer, Piper and Tucker were the light of Curt's life.
Curt graduated from Palmyra High School in 1969 where he participated in many sports, but especially loved football. He was also active in FFA and band. He worked for ADM in Lincoln until he was accepted into the Electrical Union in 1972. He took classes at Southeast Community College and earned his Journeyman's Electrical license in 1976. From 1972 to 1986, Curt worked for various electrical contractors in Lincoln and the vicinity. He then worked at the Lincoln Airport Authority in the maintenance department from 1986 to 1995. In 1995, he started working for Sealed Air/Cryovac as Technical Representative and continued until he retired in 2017. He made many long-lasting friends during these years.
Throughout his life, Curt was active in the Bennet community. In addition to helping his friends and neighbors with farming and electrical problems, he served on the church board, school board and elevator board. He helped his boys with cattle when they were in 4-H and FFA. Many fond memories were made during these years.
He is survived by his wife, Veva and children, Brian (Amy), grandchildren; Drew, Hunter, Everlee and Bryer of Waverly, NE and Tim (Lisa), grandchildren Piper and Tucker of Bennet, NE. Sisters: Jan (Dallas) Svoboda of Bennet, NE and Gwendy (Harry) Meginnis of Lincoln, NE. Brother-in-law: Arlan (Carmen) Richardson of Edmond, OK as well as his aunt Joan Cheney of Carbondale, CO and uncle, Verle Denning of Fremont, NE. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents, Clement and Alene Cheney, grandparents, Floyd and Leota Cheney, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Charlotte Richardson and brother-in-law, Larry Richardson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Bennet Community Church in Bennet, Nebraska. Burial will follow in the Bennet Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM with family greeting friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to the Bennet Community Church, Bennet Fire Dept (Ambulance Fund) or Foundation for Knowledge – Palmyra/Bennet Schools
