Dale J. Mueller, 81, of Gretna, passed away on February 11, 2026, at the Oxbow Living Center in Ashland. He was born on May 9, 1944, to William and Gretchen (Bargsten) Mueller in Dunbar. On February 14, 1965, Dale married the love of his life, Barbara “Bobbi” Doeden, at Grace Lutheran Church in Cook.

Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he dedicated his professional life to Commercial Federal, where he worked as a Programming Specialist and eventually retired as Senior Vice President. His strong work ethic and leadership were evident throughout his career.

Dale was a devoted Husker fan who, along with his sister Joan, and brother-in-law Jim, traveled to every home and away Nebraska football game for 20 years. He was extremely handy and was always working on projects, generously helping his children with their homes and patiently teaching others how to fix and build things.

He had a playful spirit and was known for his sarcasm, dad jokes, and love of teasing his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. His grandchildren especially cherished the tickets he would write them for bike riding offenses such as riding too fast, riding too slow, or not having enough fun. The punishment was normally appearing before a judge and having to share a dessert with him. Dale had a serious sweet tooth which meant he never met a dessert he didn’t like and would have gladly skipped dinner to go straight to dessert.

He was very active in the Springfield American Legion Post #143, helping organize events and supporting fellow veterans. Dale also loved his dogs, golfing with his buddies, enjoyed playing games of all kinds—including dominoes, Scrabble, and cards—and valued any opportunity to gather with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa (Ron) Berube; son, Todd (Lisa) Mueller; grandchildren Shelby (Luke) White; Dylan Berube; Brooke (Ian) Meador; Cade Mueller (Molly Lakin); Sydney Mueller; sister Joan Buckwalter; brother Dennis Mueller (Ann Jordan); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bobbi; brother Herman Mueller; and sisters Ruby Heinke and Darlene McGee.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28th from 2-5 p.m. at the Gretna American Legion Post #216. The family invites those attending to dress casually in Husker attire. A private inurnment, with the immediate family, will take place at the Omaha National Cemetery at a later date.
