Darlene F. Smith, 92 of Syracuse, formerly of Cook, passed away on January 20, 2020 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born on April 26, 1927 to Elmer & Hattie (Bailey) Johnson near Douglas, NE.

Darlene graduated from Palmyra High School in 1944. She married Robert Smith on November 20, 1944 at her parents' home in Palmyra. Darlene worked alongside Robert on the farm. She enjoyed cooking, being outdoors and always had a big vegetable garden.

She is survived by her Children: Cheryl (Barney) Doeden of Syracuse, Daryl Smith & Ron Novak of Columbus, Ron (Colleen) Smith of Cook; Grandchildren: Jim Ehmen, Lori (Troy) Berner, Julie Smith & Gerald Focken, Rick Smith & Shelia Focken; 4 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; Sister-in-law: Norma Smith; also many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister: Wilma (Jake) Clem along with numerous brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11 A.M. at the St. Paul's United Church of Christ (Osage) in rural Cook. Burial will be held at 2 P.M. at the Rosewood Cemetery in Palmyra.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 23rd from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 5:30 – 7 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
