David Philip Meisinger was born on October 6, 1940 in Murray, Nebraska to Alvin B.E. & Clara M. (Wickman) Meisinger. He passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 while visiting Gothenburg, Nebraska at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 21 days.
Dave grew up in the Plattsmouth area and attended Plattsmouth High School where he graduated in 1958. He was united in marriage to Janet A. Friedrich on November 10, 1961 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Plattsmouth, NE. Together they raised three sons, John, Dan and Buck. Dave worked for many years for the City of Plattsmouth Waste Water Treatment Plant. At the time of his retirement he was the supervisor. Other employment included the Cass County Sheriff Office, where he was the Chief Deputy.
He is a member of the Plattsmouth Volunteer Fire Department, Mid States Antique Tractor Club, Nebraska Waste Water Operators Division, Plattsmouth Lodge #6 A.F. & A.M. and a Lord of the Realm of the Kass Kounty King Korn Karnival.
Dave loved the sport of baseball and spent many summers coaching Little League players. Fishing, camping, hunting and anything outdoors were favorite pastimes. One particular favorite was watching the Missouri River (checking to see if the river was still flowing south), as well as fishing from the many cabins that he constructed along the Mighty Mo over the past years. Since retirement in April 2003, he has spent a lot of time fishing and traveling to Gothenburg, NE, spending time with son, Dan, fishing the many lakes and canals in the area. When not fishing, he was working on restoring John Deere tractors. He liked the simple older JD's – John Deere B's, A's, & G's. He enjoyed traveling to two-cylinder expo shows and touring John Deere factories. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with sons, John & Buck. They would call and say 'Hey, Dad, can you mow the yard?' or 'Can you help move a building or build a coop?' There was always time to be with grandchildren, attend their sports activities & school functions. Papa enjoyed lots of one-on-one playtime. He and Janet enjoyed traveling and spending winter months in southern Texas with friends.
Dave is survived by his wife Janet of Plattsmouth, sons, John D. and wife Debbie of Glenwood, IA, Dan F. and wife Mary of Gothenburg and Buck and wife Heather of Louisville.
