David Harry Nelson was born on October 1, 1934 in Aurora, Illinois to Harry and Elizabeth (Thurow) Nelson. He died on January 24, 2015 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80 years, 3 months, and 23 days.
Dave graduated from Oswego, Illinois High School, where he was a talented basketball player. His employment always included a truck, ranging from being a milk man, a dispatcher, but for most of his life, an over-the-road truck driver. He was transferred from Chicago, Illinois in 1971 when Ace Hardware built a new terminal in Lincoln, Nebraska. After Ace, he worked for Crete Carriers, and then Yellow Freight until his retirement. He enjoyed visiting with people and struck up a conversation with everyone. Dave went to school to be an auctioneer and enjoyed the combination of working with people and selling. He loved cattle and had several Angus herds. Later in his life, he moved to Tennessee and enjoyed being around the Nashville Country Music Scene. Dave always wanted to live in Texas, so four years ago he moved to Texas. In June of 2013, After some health issues, he moved to Nebraska. He enjoyed getting reacquainted with his family, especially the nine great-grandchildren. After further health issues, he died peacefully on January 24th with his two children there.
Dave is survived by his children: daughter Linda and husband Doug Allen of Louisville, NE son Mark and wife Kim Nelson of Ceresco, NE.five grandchildren - Josh and wife Kate Allen, Spencer and wife Lynne Nelson, Jackie and husband Jason Heard, Samantha and husband Brett Cermak, and Jennie Allen. Nine great-grandchildren- Maddox, Laine, and Reese Allen, Cade and Cambrie Nelson, Jacob and Joslyn Heard, and Braxton and Marcus Cermak. He is also survived by Brother Paul of Minnesota, sister Joyce Everson of Illinois, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by parents and one brother, Robert.
Memorial Services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 28th at 4:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church, Louisville, Nebraska with Pastor Bob Wynn presiding. No visitation due to cremation. Family suggests memorials to Make-A-Wish, Nebraska.
