Dean R. Lamb, 77, of Syracuse, passed away at the Syracuse Hospital on December 28, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1947, to Robert & Edna (Schumacher) Lamb in Nebraska City. Dean attended District 10 country school, before graduating from Syracuse High School. After high school, he attended Southeast Community College at Milford for two years before completing his studies at UNL for one year. After college, Dean worked at State Farm.
On October 25, 1968, Dean married Ruth Lueders at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Elk Creek. He also served his country honorably in the Army National Guard. After their marriage, Dean managed the SYPCO hog confinement and finished his career farming. He also served as treasurer for the National Farmers Organization.
Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and raising his beloved hunting dogs. As he grew older, he found joy in watching sports on TV, especially the Husker Women's Volleyball Team. He also loved growing hot peppers, having coffee with friends at Cubby's, and, most importantly, attending his grandchildren's activities.
Dean is survived by his wife Ruth Lamb; children Craig (Becky) Lamb, Angie (Chuck) Gubbels, Jamie (James) Tiernan; grandchildren Brandon & Kyle Cavanaugh, Reese, Peyton & Paxton Tiernan; brother Kenny (Barb) Lamb; sister-in-law Joyce (Larry) Schaardt; brother-in-law Glenn Lueders; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch) in rural Avoca. The service will be livestreamed on the First Lutheran Youtube page. Burial will be at Warner Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. with family greeting friends from 3-5 p.m. all at the funeral home in Syracuse.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church (North Branch), Warner Cemetery, Syracuse Fire and Rescue Department or the Syracuse Dollars for Scholars.
