Donald Allen Barkhurst was born on May 12, 1948 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Frank and Helen (Hahn) Barkhurst. He passed away on Monday, December 7, 2009 at his home in Springfield, Nebraska at the age of 61 years, 6 months and 25 days.
Donald was brought home to the family farm and later joined by a sister Linda and a brother Russell. He attended College Hill Country school until the 7th grade when his parents moved the family to Louisville. While continuing school, he delivered papers and worked in the grocery store, graduating from Louisville High School in 1966. He worked at several business then enlisted in the Air Force serving for 4 years during the Vietnam War. He married Nancy Shiley on July 21, 1968. They welcomed three children, Lora who sadly passed away the day after birth, they then welcomed Brian and Amanda. Nancy passed away in 2004.
Don worked at Old Mill Toyota for more than 30 years as the Assistant Parts Manager. Despite how bad he might feel, he made it to work day after day. His evenings were spent building beautiful scale models, planes, ships, cars, trains and coal tender. His most recent fascination was a helicopter and he wasn't happy till he had each and every detail exactly like it should be.
Don is survived by his son – Brian and wife Laura Barkhurst, grandson – Caleb of Little Rock, Arkansas, Daughter Amanda Barkhurst of Springfield, NE, Mother – Helen Barkhurst of Louisville, NE, Sister – Linda Gray of Louisville, NE, brother – Russell Barkhurst of Osage City, Kansas, Nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his.Father Frank in 1977, wife Nancy in 2004, daughter Lora in 1970, brother-in-law Michael Gray in 2006
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home Chapel in Louisville, Nebraska with Rev. Tony Dawson officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the Funeral Services.
Interment will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Rural Louisville, Nebraska
