Obituary
Donald L. Block was born on July 3, 1929 in Unadilla, Nebraska to Floyd and Alvina (Eisenhauer) Block. He passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Bryan LGH Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 7 days.
Don lived his entire life in Otoe County, he was raised in the Unadilla and Syracuse areas and graduated from Syracuse High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married the love of his life, Lois Sinnen on March 27, 1952 in Cook, Nebraska and together they raised two children, Jerry and Jean.
Don was a hard working man, and spent 40 years as the Superintendent of Utilities for the City of Syracuse. After retirement he helped Jerry Siefken with some seasonal farming duties and assisted the staff at Fusselman-Wymore Funeral Home with various duties. Don was a devoted Sexton at the Park Hill Cemetery where he took great pride in assuring that the cemetery was well maintained and cared for.
He was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Lions Club, Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion, Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547, Volunteer Fireman and was a loyal camera man at his church.
He is survived by Wife: Lois Block of Syracuse, NE; Children: Jerry Block and wife Chris of Lake Park, IA; Jean Farley and husband Brad of Lincoln, NE; 5 Grandchildren: Jeremy Block and wife Shari; Brian Farley and wife Jodi; Eric Farley and wife Kari; Kevin Farley and Jennifer Block. 3 Great Grandchildren: Trevor, Sydney and Maggie. Sister: Elaine Lunkwitz and husband Derl of North Platte, NE; Numerous Nieces, Nephews and a host of Friends.
He was preceded in death by His Parents, Brother-in-laws: Melvin Sinnen and Robert Beers
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, NE with Rev. Paul Coen and Rev. Mike Widner.
Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery Syracuse, NE.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 13th from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Memorials in Lieu of Flowers may be directed to Syracuse Organizations or the Family's Choice.
