Donald "Don" E. Carey, 90 of Syracuse, passed away October 20th, 2019 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. He was born September 4th, 1929 to Tom & Stella (Shurmard) Carey at Dewitt, Nebraska.

When he was 2 years old he moved with his parents to a farm southeast of Adams, Nebraska. This is where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Adams High School in 1946.

On June 19th, 1949 he was united in marriage to Mildred Johnson at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church at Syracuse, Nebraska. Don and Mildred were married for 60 years till her passing on August 28th, 2009.

Don spent 3 years serving with the Nebraska National Guard followed by 4 years in the Navy.

Following his release from the Navy they moved to a farm northwest of Syracuse, where he farmed and drove school bus for Syracuse Public School.

As time passed he worked for Radio Communications in Syracuse as a T.V. repair man and did propane deliveries for Syracuse Electro Gas. Shortly after retirement he was owner of Syracuse Sharpening Service.

He was a member of and past commander of Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion and also a member and past master of Mt. Moriah Lodge #57 Masons. He was also a member of Prairie Black Smiths Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents Tom & Stella Carey and his wife Mildred Carey.

He is survived by his 2 sisters Doris & Roger DeBoer and Wilma & John Hoeven, his son and wife Scott & Sarah Carey, grandchildren Daniel Carey and Matthew Carey and great grandchildren Justyce Carey and Paxton Carey and a very special friend Sharon Hudson.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 25th at 11:00 A.M. at the Syracuse Luther Memorial Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be at a later date.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 24th from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends from 7-8 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the Syracuse Fire Dept. or Syracuse Rescue Squad.
