Donald Robert Petersen, age 96 of Ashland formerly of Louisville, NE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 at the Oxbow Living Center in Ashland, Nebraska. Born on July 5th, 1928, in Springfield, Nebraska to Christian W. and Rose M. (Hoerath) Petersen.
As a young man, Donald helped on the family farm. He met Edith M. "Kaye" Marshall and the two were married September 23, 1950 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Donald dedicated his professional life to his career as a Construction Superintendent at Peter Kiewit, where he was well-regarded for his leadership and commitment. Beyond his professional achievements, Donald was known for his generous heart and willingness to lend a hand with any project. He had a love for Cubs Baseball, Western films—especially those starring John Wayne—woodworking, and later in life, tending his yard.
He is survived by his children: Calvin (Michelle) Petersen of Saginaw, TX, Rodney (Lori) Petersen of Louisville, NE, and Shari (Rodney) Belter of Omaha, NE. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Crystal (Terry) Refior, Jacob (Joanne) Petersen, Eric (Mandy) Petersen, Jennifer (Samuel) Rickert, Zachary (Jordan) Belter, and Haleigh (Logan) Faller, along with his 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. His spirit and wisdom leave a lasting impression on the countless lives he touched.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Rose Mae Petersen, and his beloved wife, Edith "Kaye" M Petersen, in eternal rest. His siblings, Harold (Mary), Walter (Barbara), Irene (Clarence) Pelzer, and Carl (Lila) Petersen, along with his great-grandson, Logan Petersen, have also preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Louisville Senior Civic Center in Louisville, NE, on Thursday, November 7th, 2024, at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Home in Louisville, NE, on Wednesday, November 6th, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm with family greeting friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Memorial donations can be made to the family for future designation.
