Doris M. Dowling, 87, of Syracuse, Nebraska, passed away at home on June 17, 2026. She was born on May 22, 1939, in McLean, Nebraska, to Forest Schreiner and Marjorie Wostrel.

On February 27, 1954, Doris married Vernon Dowling in Yankton, South Dakota. Together they raised their seven children: Douglas, Pamela, Steven, Dale, Dave, Curt, and Troy. Unfortunately their son Dave passed away in 1967.

For many years, Doris dedicated her skills to the field of science, working last at SmithKline, where she was involved in the production of animal tissue cultures for rabies vaccines. Beyond her professional career, she was a passionate gardener and enjoyed canning. A devoted member of Luther Memorial, she led a wholesome and inspiring life, leaving a significant impact on all who knew her.

Funeral services for Doris will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the funeral home in Syracuse. Burial will follow at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home Facebook page.

Memorial contributions may be made in Doris's name to the Luther Memorial Church.

Doris is survived by her children: Douglas Dowling, Pamela Moore-Manning (Shane Manning), Steven (Roxanne) Dowling, Dale (Robin) Dowling, Curt (Lori) Dowling, and Troy (Marie) Dowling; fifteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vernon, her son, Dave Dowling, her daughters-in-law, Tandra Dowling and Ida Dowling, her parents, and her brother, Duane Schreiner.
