Doris E. Windels, 95, of Syracuse was born on May 19, 1918 to Neil & Ethel (Rodaway) Wyatt in rural Unadilla, Nebraska. She passed away on November 22, 2013 at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital.

She attended Dist. 108 rural school and graduated from Unadilla High School in 1936. After attending Peru State College and receiving a teaching certificate, she taught in rural school until 1968. She then took a position as a first grade teacher in Syracuse. Doris married Virgil Windels on August 28, 1942. She was a 4-H leader, enjoyed the neighborhood card club and was a member of First Lutheran Church Faith Circle.

Her hobbies were sewing, flowers, collecting antiques and china paintings. Doris was also a member of several painting clubs, with the last one being Lincoln Prairie Painters.

Doris is survived by Son: Virgil (Jean) Windels Jr. of Las Cruses, NM, Daughter: Claretta (Gerald) Royal of Palmyra, Grandchildren: Susan (Tim) Steward, Diane (Jessie) Humm, Joann Huenink, John (Becky) Windels, Jeffrey (Zeppelin) Windels, Great Grandchildren: Tanya Steward, Erin Steward, Brian Bruggeman, Hannah Huenink, Henry Huenink, Avrie Windels, Sister: Elda Bolt, Brother: Glen (Susie) Wyatt

She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Virgil

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday November 26, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the First Lutheran Church (North Branch).

Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery (North Branch).

Visitation will be held on Monday Nov. 25 from 9 A.M. until 7 P.M. with family greeting friends from 5 until 7 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Syracuse High School Dollars for Scholars.
