Dorothy Ann Rakes was born, February 19, 1927, in Geddes, South Dakota, to George Sr. &Anna Elizabeth (Mortonson) Drake. She left us on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at the Syracuse Community Memorial Hospital, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 21 days.


Dorothy married Theodore August Hollmann, on 12-21-47, in Platte, South Dakota, and they had 4 children James Lee, Bonnie Rae, Richard Dennis, and Royce Theodore. Mr. Hollmann passed away in 1966. She married Harold Rakes, on 6-15-69, in Nebraska City, NE. Dorothy taught for 3 years after high school, was a member of Luther Memorials Ladies Group, loved to make Crafts of all kinds, Square Dance, Garden (Vegetables, & Flowers), and she canned everything. Enjoyed Garage Sales for Craft Ideas, Quilting, Cats, and the color Purple.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter Bonnie Rae Karkosky, of Syracuse, NE, sons Richard Dennis & wife Jean Hollmann, of Lincoln, NE, and Royce Theodore & wife Vicki Hollmann, of Port Orchard, WA, daughter-in-law Joy Hollmann, of El Cajon, CA, 9 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband Theodore, in 1966, and husband Harold, in 1984, her son James Lee, sisters and brothers, Helen, George, twins Dennis & Doris, Edna Mae, Ted, and her twin brother Donald.

Funeral Services will be Monday, April 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, 1162 Mohawk Street, Syracuse, NE, with burial in South Dakota. Family suggests memorials to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church

VISITATION will be Sunday, April 17, 2011 from 1 P.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., all at the Funeral Home.
