Dorothy A. Ropers, 93 of Syracuse formerly Otoe, passed away on June 6, 2016 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center. She was born on May 29, 1923 to Edward & Sophia (Knickman) Schutz in Otoe, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Otoe.
Dorothy attended country school Dist. 76 through 8th grade and graduated from Otoe High School in 1941. Dorothy married Willard W. Ropers on September 21, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church and to this union they had 2 daughters, Barbara & Peggy. She worked for Staack Radio & TV in Otoe for many years. She taught Sunday school at St. John's for 37 years, was a member of the Evergreen Club for 65 years. She was also a member of the VFW auxiliary #5547 and volunteered over 1000 hrs. at the VA hospital in Lincoln. She will also be remembered for her delicious cinnamon rolls.
She is survived by her Sister: Bette Reitter of St. Paul, MN; Grandson: Wyatt (Michelle) Hutchison of Otoe; Granddaughter: Teresa (Javier) Zapata of Mission, TX; Great Grandchildren: Josephine Sherman, Jason Hutchison, Howard Hutchison, Kristin Hutchison, Caitlin Hutchison, Victoria Hutchison, Ethan Zapata, Logan Zapata, Damian Zapata.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Willard; Daughters: Barbara Hutchison & Peggy Ropers; Grandson: Michael Hutchison; Brothers: Calvin & Maynard Schutz
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 13 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Otoe. Burial will be at the Otoe cemetery.
Memorial are suggested to the family's choice.
Visitation will be held on Saturday June 11 from 9 A.M. until 5 P.M. and Sunday June 12 from Noon until 9 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
