Dorothy Mae Wander, of Nebraska City, formerly of Syracuse passed away on January 9th, 2013 in Nebraska City at the age of 77. She was born on November 5, 1935 in Murray, NE to Richard & Dorothy Schanot.
Dorothy married Charles Wander on May 22, 1955 and to this union they raised 4 sons Dwight, Mark, Brad and Chris. Dorothy earned her Bachelor of Science degree with distinction from Peru State College; she then went on to receive her Master of Education Degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Dorothy taught 6 years in rural Otoe County schools, and then taught 5th and 6th grades for 24 years at the Syracuse-Dunbar-Avoca Schools.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and for several years taught Bible School classes. She always enjoyed her flowers at her Syracuse home. Dorothy was very active in Beta Sigma Sorority for 25 years. She lived in Murray, Nehawka, Union, Nebraska City, Syracuse, Denver, CO, and Texas.
She enjoyed traveling to 47 of the 50 states. She also learned to play an acoustic guitar after retiring from teaching, and would go to classic country music festivals and jams to sing and play her guitar.
She is survived by Husband Charles Wander of Nebraska City, NE; Sons: Dwight (Sharon) Wander of Syracuse, NE, Mark (Arlene) Wander of Lincoln, NE, Brad (Diana) Wander of Houston, TX, Chris (Brenda) Wander of Colleyville, TX; Brother Richard (Susie) Schanot of Joplin, MO; Sister Joyce (Bill) Johnson of Murray, NE; Grandchildren Jeremy Wander, Nichole Hurst, Mitchell Wander, April Wander, Alex Wander, Kayla Wander, Nichole Covorubias, Nathan Kitrell, Matthew Wander, Hayden Wander; Great Grandchildren Brianna Wander, Owen Wander, Carter Wander, Adelynn Hurst, Kinley Hurst, Sira Nadam
She was preceded in death by her Parents: Richard & Dorothy Schanot.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, NE. Burial will be at Park Hill cemetery
Visitation will be held on January 11, 2013 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M.
