Douglas Willard Wells, age 61 of Ashland, Nebraska, passed away on October 14, 2025, at his home in Ashland. Born on November 27, 1963, in Omaha, Nebraska to W. James (Jim) and Paula M. (Broady) Wells.
Following his high school graduation in 1981 from Westside High School, Doug earned a B.A. in Business Administration with a minor in Music from the University of Nebraska. In 1991, he embarked on a remarkable journey with the Peace Corps, where he dedicated his time to serving in Estonia and various other locations. His commitment to service led him to a fulfilling career at the U.S. State Department in IT Security, where he contributed to the safety and security of our nation.
After retiring, Doug found a new calling as a Master Naturalist with the Nebraska Game and Parks Department, where he shared his passion for the great outdoors with others. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, camping, and exploring both new places and his old stomping grounds. Doug devoted his spare time to volunteering at local homeless shelters, the Durham Museum, and at a camp for children in the foster care system.
Doug is survived by his son, Harry Wells, of Ashland. NE and his mother, Paula Wells of Ashland, NE, his siblings, Kim (Jim) Larsen of Elk Grove, CA, Tracy (Scott) Stuehm of Colorado Springs, CO, Alison (Roger) Kleinsasser of Huron, SD, Devon Barlow of Omaha, NE, Andrea (Scott) Cole of Papillion, NE, Dan (Amber) Wells of Elkhorn, NE, Beth Wells of Omaha, NE, Cameron Wells of Omaha, NE, Thomas Wells of Omaha, NE, Abe Wells of Cambridge, MA, Marissa Wells of Omaha, NE, Turner Wells of Omaha, NE, Rebecca Wells of Phoenix, AZ, Evan Wells of Omaha, NE, and Christina Wells of Phoenix, AZ, and his sister-in-law Carol Wells of Lincoln, NE.
He was preceded in death by his father, W. James (Jim) Wells, Jr. and his brother, Marty Wells.
A celebration of Doug's life, will be held Thursday, November 6th at 11 a.m. at Church of the Cross, 1517 S 114th St, Omaha, NE 68144. Lunch will be provided following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Open Door Mission in Omaha or the Peoples City Mission in Lincoln.
