Eddie Harms, 102 of Syracuse, passed away on May 11, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Center. He was born on December 22, 1923, to John and Adeline (Schmidt) Harms at Adams, Nebraska.

Eddie attended Hooker rural school near Adams. He was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church and was confirmed at Adams Lutheran Church. Eddie married Mildred Straube at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sterling. They lived in Adams, then moved to Burr, where he farmed with his brother-in-law Dick Straube. His farming career included work as a mechanic and finally settling into a long career in soil conservation. He retired at 100 years old. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Finally, living in Syracuse over the past 25 years.

He and Millie loved dancing and traveling. They had many adventures with their travel overseas. It seemed that children and pets naturally gravitated to him. He talked to everyone and had friends of all ages.

Eddie is survived by his children Tim (Billie Joy) of Dallas and Tanya (Greg) Christian of Minneapolis, grandsons Matthew and Michael of Dallas, sister-in-laws Marlene and Elaine Harms, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

Eddie is preceded in death by his parents John and Adeline (Schmidt), wife Mildred, sisters and brothers Grace and Tena Parde, Harm, Jerry, Willie, Louie, Edna Brethouwer, John Jr., Adeline, Marvin, Kenneth, LeRoy and Robert Harms, brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Bob and Ruth Salomons, Dick and Nora Straube, Don and Martha Brinkman, Dale and Dorothy Johnson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. at Luther Memorial Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Luther Memorial Church, NE YouTube page. Burial will follow at the Park Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15 from noon until 7 p.m. with family greeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
