Eileen Marie (Nelson) Grant, 88, of Syracuse, passed away at the CountryHouse in Lincoln on May 6, 2025. She was born on April 6, 1937, in Lincoln, NE to Henry B. & Ida C. (Wedberg) Nelson. She along with her twin sisters, Betty & Bonnie, were raised on a farm near Ceresco, NE. Eileen had a happy childhood and enjoyed farm life. She had particularly fond memories of going to see movies in Wahoo with her dad. Eileen attended a 1-room country school. She graduated from Ceresco High School in 1954 and was awarded a scholarship to a business school in Lincoln but turned it down to begin working at the Capital.
She met Louis Stroud at a dance at the Lincoln Airbase. They married in July of 1957. Together they had 2 children, Michael and Julie. After her first marriage ended, she met Robert Grant and they married in January of 1979. They spent many happy years together until his death in 2018.
During her working years, Eileen was a bank teller at several different banks. She loved her work and enjoyed the conversations with her customers. Some of the things that brought her happiness was keeping a clean house, gardening, reading, decaf coffee, making dumplings & homemade Runzas, and country music. Above all listening to Bob play guitar and sing at home or at one of the events where he would provide music.
Eileen had a sense of humor and enjoyed teasing family and friends. She loved the times when her grandchildren would visit her to chat, joke and laugh, and maybe have a nip of peppermint schnapps. Eileen was a member of St. John's UCC in Syracuse and Cornhusker Country Music Club.
She is survived by her son Michael (Linda) Stroud; daughter Julie (Dave) Zahn; grandchildren Justin (Beth) Stroud, Jenna (Ryan) Petrocchi, Mallory (Dave) Carstens, Emily (Joshua) States, Andrew (Shannon) Zahn, Nathan Zahn; 5 great grandchildren; also numerous nephews and friends.
