Eileen Martens was born on February 1, 1923 in Alliance, Nebraska to Clay & Virginia (Rust) Cunningham. She passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 90 years, 9 months and 29 days.

She grew up and graduated from High School in the Alliance area. After High School, she was united in marriage to Glen E. Thompson on December 25, 1941 in Alliance, Nebraska. Together they raised two children, Grover and Harold. She was a mother and also assisted with chores on the family ranch. After Glen's death, she later remarried on January 7, 1983 to Ralph Martens in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

She was a wonderful cook and knew everyone as a friend. She was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She spent many years as a caregiver to family members. After she and Ralph married, it brought them both great joy to spend time together. She was a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse and a former member of the Episcopal Church in Alliance.

Eileen is survived by her : Husband, Ralph Martens of Syracuse, NE; Children: Grover & Vicki Thompson of Alliance ,NE; Harold & Marge Thompson of Alliance, NE; 8 Grandchildren 10 Great Grandchildren; Step-Children: Ralph & Susan Martens, Jr. of Eagle, NE; Earl & Elaine Martens of Syracuse, NE; Betty & Darrell Ihde of Lincoln, NE; 3 Step Grandchildren; 6 Step Great Grandchildren. Sister: Valetta Underwood of Omaha, NE. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, 1st Husband: Glen Thompson; brother, Jim Cunningham, Brothers-in-law, Andy Karnes & Bill Underwood

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Nebraska with PMA Sharon Carman and Rev. Gail Madson officiating.

Inurnment will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, Nebraska.
