Obituary
Eldon Gene Rhoten, 72, of Peru, NE passed away at his home surrounded by family on November 12, 2013. He was born on November 4, 1941 to Howard & Ellen (Mohlman) Rhoten in Lincoln, NE.
Eldon married Paula Wall on July 27, 1962 in Syracuse, NE. Eldon was an electrician by profession, but his passion was Sprint Car racing. He raced for 50 years & was truly loved by the racing community. Once he retired, he indulged his other passion, nature. He moved to Peru, NE on an acreage & enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors. He shared his home over the years with 8 dachshunds & never had a time without one in his life. He was a friend to all & would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He loved his family & spending time with them. He also enjoyed having everyone come visit him at the acreage.
Eldon served in the Navy as Chief Mechanic to the Captain's plane on the aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard. He was a member of the VFW Post #8334 in Millard, NE, (NMRA) Nebraska Modified Racing Association, American Legion #0374, Millard, NE, IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 22, Big Car Racing Association (BCRA), 50 Years of Sprint Car Racing and recently raced Nebraska 360 Sprint Series.
Eldon is survived by his Wife Paula of Peru, NE; Son: Kevin of Peru, NE; Daughter: Michelle Rohlfing of Omaha, NE; Grandson Zachary Armstrong of Omaha, NE; Granddaughter Veronica Rohlfing of Omaha, NE; Sister: Joan Allen of Douglas, NE; Brother Howard & Carolyn Rhoten of Omaha, NE; Sister: Judi & Marvin Sterns of Lincoln, NE; Also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ellen & Howard.
A memorial service will be held on December 1, 2013 at 1:00 P.M, at Green Room, 430 5th Street, Syracuse, Nebraska. Memorial service will be held from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. A time of food and fellowship and sharing our memories of Eldon will be held from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM. Feel free to bring any pictures or mementos you would like to share with the family.
