Obituary

Elmer Boettcher was born on September 7, 1918 in Unadilla, Nebraska to George and Catherine (Folken) Boettcher. He went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 9, 2010 at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 2 days.

Elmer served in the United States Army from March 30, 1942 until December 9, 1945 during World War II. He received a bronze star, having served in the Battle of the Bulge. He had the privilege of traveling on the 2009 Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Elmer was united in marriage on March 5, 1956 to Norma Jean Wachter at the United Methodist Church in Unadilla, Nebraska. He worked as the Postmaster at Unadilla, Nebraska for more than 30 years prior to retirement.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Unadilla. He enjoyed mowing the lawn, gardening, loved the heat, his cat Cookie and spending time with grandchildren. He was a member of the DAV, Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion and Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547.

He is survived by Wife: Norma Jean Boettcher of Unadilla, NE; Son: David Boettcher and wife Tamela of North Platte, NE; Daughters: Linda Springer and husband Fred of Cherokee, IA; Lori Vodicka and husband Ron of Unadilla, NE: Grandchildren: Lisa Boettcher of North Platte, NE: Matthew Markland of Unadilla, NE; Steven Markland of Cherokee, IA; Nicole Springer of Cherokee, IA; Ashley Vodicka of Kearney, NE. Also survived by many neices, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Alvin and Pete, sisters, Viola, Sadie and Leila.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Unadilla, Nebraska with Rev. Tony Dawson officiating.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 13th from 1:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 14th from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 7-9 PM

Interment will be in the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, Nebraska
