Elvin Fred John Emshoff was born August 30, 1925, in Avoca, Nebraska, to John and Matilde (Koester) Emshoff. He passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center, Syracuse, Nebraska, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 18 days.
Elvin graduated in 1943 from Avoca School and in September of 1944 entered the United States Army. He married Anna Maxine Seegel on August 8, 1947, at First Lutheran Church, (North Branch), and raised 3 lovely girls, Sue, Jonna, and Polly. He worked as a U.S. Postal Mail Carrier for many years. Elvin was a member of Avoca Lions Club, Avoca Fire Department, Mayor of Avoca, Avoca City Council, Avoca School Board, Coin Collector, Avid Fisherman, Built the Avoca Sportsman's Club, Started the Cass County Baseball Association, Massie-Richards American Legion Post in Syracuse along with the Mid-Otoe County Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a care taker for Anna. Elvin married LaVerta Hillman on February 17, 1990, at First Lutheran Church (North Branch)
Elvin is survived by his daughters Sue (Phil) Crafton of Omaha, Jonna (Ronald) Hubbard of Marysville, KS, Polly (Greg) Frye of Eagle, Grandchildren Casey (Stephanie) Frye, Andrew (Trisha) Crafton, Sarah Crafton, Mitchell (Megan) Frye, Wesley (Ashley) Frye, 4 great grandchildren Easton Frye, Gage Frye, Creighton Frye, Vincent Crafton, step daughter Jill McAuliffe, brother Wilbert (Leora) Emshoff, brothers-in-law Wayne Wessel, and Dean Seegel, and sister-in-law Crystal Potts, along with many nieces & nephews.
Elvin is preceded in death by Parents, John and Matilde Emshoff, Wives Anna Maxine, and LaVerta , brother Ralph Emshoff, sisters Darlene Emshoff, and Anna Mae Wessel.
Funeral services will be Wednesday August 21, 2013, at 10:30 A.M. at First Lutheran Church (North Branch) with burial at the Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, Nebraska. Family suggest memorials to the Church.
Visitation will be Tuesday August 20th, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
