Obituary

Emil E. Eisenhauer was born on August 23, 1914, the 9th of 11 children, to Henry and Anna (Poppe) Eisenhauer at his parent's home near Burr, Nebraska. He passed away November 9, 2011 at the Syracuse Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska after proudly living in his own home until his 97th birthday in August, 2011.

Emil attended Arbor Grove School (District 94), graduating from the 8th grade. He began farming full time at the age of 18 and continued to enjoy working in the field into his 80's.

Emil was united in marriage on March 5, 1942 to Irene Schrieber at her parent's home near Syracuse, Nebraska. After a short honeymoon, he reported to active duty with the US Army. He served as a First Mechanic of the C Battery, 90th Division, with fourteen vehicles to maintain. Serving on the European Front, he saw action in France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Czechoslovakia and Germany. His battery landed on Utah Beach on June 8, 1944 and saw 322 days of combat.

At the end of the war, he and Irene took up farming near Burr where they raised their three children. In 1962 they moved to the Schrieber family farm near Syracuse and then retired to Syracuse in 1983. In 1991, their family farm was honored to be a Nebraska 100 Year Farm.

Emil was a lifelong member of Hope Lutheran Church of Burr. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Brotherhood, served on church council and sang bass in the church choir for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion and several local bowling leagues.

Emil's hobbies included fishing, woodworking, traveling, playing cards and doing the daily Jumble puzzle. He enjoyed taking the Handibus to the Syracuse Senior Center for dinner the past eight years.

He is survived by Daughters: Jean Eisenhauer of Lexington, VA, Mary Beth Bretthorst and husband Coy of New Castle, CO, Son: Dwight Eisenhauer and wife Linda of Syracuse, NE, Grandchildren: Rick Eisenhauer and wife Trang of Firth, NE, Jon Eisenhauer of Syracuse, NE, Ty Bretthorst of Brooklyn, NY, Shannon Scoggins and husband Anthony of San Diego, CA, Step-Grandchildren: Jeff Rohlfs and fiance' Amy of Unadilla, Becky Wallen and husband Larry of Lincoln, NE, Great Grandchildren: Nick and Jacob Eisenhauer of Syracuse, NE, Jeremy Eisenhauer of Springfield, IL, Casey and husband Eric Kotas of Western, NE, Stephanie Eisenhauer of Syracuse, NE, Benjamin and Phoebe Scoggins of San Diego, CA Step Great Grandchildren: Taylor Rohlfs of Unadilla, NE, Cassandra Wallen of Lincoln, NE, Step Great Great Grandchild: Trenton Kotas of Western, NE, Sisters-in-law: Elda Schrieber of Red Bud, IL, Irene Eden Eisenhauer of Syracuse, NE, Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene of 65 years, and his four brothers - Ed, Albert, Martin and Ernest, and six sisters - Lillie Neeman, Bertha Henke, Amanda Watermeier, Alvina Block, Lydia Goering and Velma Bader and all of their spouses.

Funeral Services will be Sunday, November 13, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church in Burr, Nebraska with Rev. Jim Helgren officiating.

Visitation will be Saturday November 12 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M with family greeting friends from 5 P.M. until 7 P.M. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, Nebraska.
