Obituary
Erna Wilhelmina Dodenhof was born to Herman and Katie (Heins) Krumwiede on January 7, 1913, in Loup City, Nebraska. She passed away at her daughter Leila's home on Wednesday, July 4, 2007, at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 27 days.
Erna married Henry Dodenhof, on February 21, 1931, in Ashton, Nebraska, and to this union they raised 3 children, Leila, Melvin, and Randel. Erna was a member of First Lutheran Church (North Branch). Erna enjoyed being part of a card club. Many memories were recorded by Erna in a book, "A Gift of Memories from Grandma." Family memories were many, also. The family shared that Erna loved people of all ages--She was a babysitter for many local families; she loved having people visit and thought the time they spent visiting went too quickly. Erna enjoyed going out for car rides. She loved writing, as well as receiving letters and cards. One pet peeve she had was people that just signed cards rather than jotting an additional note. She was a great cook, especially noted for her cherry dessert. Erna was a gardener and raised a variety of poultry- ducks, geese, and chickens. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading. Family members said that Erna always had a smile on her face, and when life was difficult, her usual response was that "we have to take whatever life has dealt us." Erna impacted many people throughout her 94 years.
Erna is survived by her daughter Leila Staack, Avoca, Nebraska, son Melvin and wife Barbara Dodenhof, of Omaha, Nebraska, and Randel and wife Millie Dodenhof, of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico., 17 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Erna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry Dodenhof, and 2 sisters and 1 brother, son-in-law Harold Staack, and 2 grandsons- Sean and Mikel.
