Ernie Gross was born August 9, 1917, in rural Burr, NE, to Charles and Minnie (Neeman) Gross. He passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in Lincoln, NE at the age of 93 years, 9 months, and 17 days.
Ernie married Naomi Vohs, on October 25, 1940 at Papillion, NE, to this union they raised son Kenny and daughter Susan.
Ernie and Naomi lived on the Gross home place in rural Burr until moving into Syracuse in 1963. He was a man of few words, loving and caring and extremely devoted to his family.
During his more than "50" years of Square Dance Calling Ernie was awarded the Half Century Award, and inducted into the Hall of Fame for his outstanding service to the Square Dance Community. But his biggest enjoyment in life was working on his farm East of Burr. After retiring he enjoyed his morning coffee group, playing cards, traveling and camping with his many friends.
Ernie is survived by his wife of 70 years, Naomi, daughter Susan McClatchey, of Whittier, NC, daughter-in-law Connie Gross, of Goodyear AZ. Grandson Jon Royal of Hiawatha KS, granddaughter Kristi Goode and husband Denny, of Phoenix, AZ, great grandchildren Rebecca and Jonathan Royal, sister Dortha Gross and Ruby Peterson, of Syracuse, nieces and nephews, and many very special friends.
Preceded in death by his son Kenny, parents, sisters Esther Schreiner, and Kay Frances and one brother LeRoy Gross.
A celebration of life will be Saturday April 30, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, NE.
Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery
Visitation will be April 29, 2011 from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with the family greeting friends from 6 until 8 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
The family suggests memorial to Families Choice.
