Obituary
Esther D. Wessel was born on November 28, 1922 in Syracuse, Nebraska to Louis and Sophie (Ehlers) Steinhoff. She passed away on Friday, October 15, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center in Syracuse, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 10 months and 17 days.
Esther was united in marriage to Kenneth Richard Wessel on September 10, 1947 in Syracuse, Nebraska. They eventually made their home on a farm in Rural Avoca, Nebraska. Esther assumed her role as a farmwife and loving mother of two daughters, Ruth Ann and Rita. She assisted with all aspects of operating the family farm, she raised chickens and sold the eggs in town and gardened. She was known as a good cook and especially loved cooking a large Thanksgiving dinner for her family.
Esther was a very social person and enjoyed visiting with friends over coffee. She a member of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, a garden club, the November Birds Club and a neighborhood card club. Her favorite card game was pinnacle.
She and Kenneth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1997. After Kenneth passed away in 1998, she remained living on the farm until making her home at Linden View Assisted Living Center in Syracuse.
She is survived by her Daughters: Ruth Ann Boese of Lincoln, NE, Rita Mae Seeba and husband John of Falls City, NE, Grandchildren: Diane Klein and husband Kevin of Lincoln, NE, Michael Boese and wife Angela of Elkhorn, NE, Angela Hanson and husband Trevor of Lincoln, NE, Ryan Seeba of Falls City, NE, Alex Seeba of Falls City, NE, 5 Great Grandchildren: Sister Lorene Rosenthal of Johnson, NE, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Kenneth, Brothers: John Steinhoff and Warren Steinhoff, Sisters: Alvina Thormahlen, Gladys Davis
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse, Nebraska with Rev. Paul Coen officiating.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home in Syracuse, Nebraska
Interment will be in the Avoca Cemetery in Avoca, Nebraska at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October, 18, 2010.
Memorials may be directed to Luther Memorial Lutheran Church, Avoca Fire Department or the Family's Choice.
