Ethel Leona Stevens Vogt Richert, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2015. She was born May 19, 1919 in Webster County to Rev. Frederic H. Stevens and Dollie Amelia Shirley. She attended schools in Custer, Nance and Platte Counties. She was a Fullerton High School graduate and valedictorian of her class of 1937. She also attended Peru State College and the University of Nebraska.
After teaching three years in rural schools in Nance and Cass Counties, Ethel was married to Raymond Vogt in Elmwood on May 19, 1940. They resided on a farm outside of Elmwood and raised 4 sons: Bruce, Richard, Robert and David.
After the death of Raymond, in 1962, Ethel was employed as a secretary/accountant at Elmwood Schools, Bornemeier Lumber Co., Stephenson School Supply, University of Nebraska, Joe B. Williams Research and as a receptionist at Fusselman Mortuary. She was the pianist/organist at the Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist churches for many years and taught piano lessons to young students in the Elmwood area. She was Grand Organist for Nebraska Order of the Eastern Star 1992-1993. She was a member of the Elmwood American Legion Auxiliary and Pinochle Pals
On November 29, 1968, Ethel married Orris Richert of Murdock and they built and resided in a home in Elmwood. Orris passed away in 1980. At the time of her death, Ethel was living at Haven Manor in Hickman.
Ethel is survived by her sons: Bruce (Ruth) of Elmwood; Dr. Richard (Mary-Margaret Cook) of Prescott, Arizona; Robert (Roxanne McIntyre) of Hickman; sisters: Phyllis Sims, Lebanon, Oregon; Barbara Walker (Rex), Spokane, Washington; Rosemary Barr, Denver, Colorado; nieces, nephews. She had eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers Wilfred Stevens and Calvin Stevens, sisters Dorothy Anderson, Ruth Fournier and Lucille Brakhage, and son David.
Visitation will be Friday April 3 from 1 P.M. until 8 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home in Elmwood.
Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Elmwood on Saturday April 4th at 11 A.M. with burial at Elmwood Cemetery.
Family Suggests Memorials To: St. Paul United Methodist Church, Elmwood Public Library, Order of the Eastern Star or Masonic Lodge Canopy #209 of Elmwood.
