Eugene "Gene" Staack, 95 of Cook, passed away peacefully on October 18th, 2019 at Belle Terrace in Tecumseh. He was born on January 9th, 1924 near Cook; son of Julius & Minnie (Meyer) Staack. Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great grandfather.
He was baptized on June 21st, 1924 at Trinity Church near Talmage & confirmed May 14th, 1939 by Rev. Heuer. After graduation he was drafted into the Army and fought in the South Pacific during WWII. He married Joan Bentzinger on July 29, 1952 at Grace Lutheran Church. They were married 67 years and to this union 3 children were born. He lived in the Cook, NE area his entire life.
Gene farmed for many years and was also a professional painter. He served on the Johnson Co. Fair Board and was named Nebraska Fair Person of the Year in 1999. He also served as a Sunday School Superintendent, 4-H Leader, ASCS Board, Veterans Service Board and the Church Council for 2 terms. He was a 71 one year member of the American Legion Post #360 in Cook and belonged to the VFW Post #8221 in Tecumseh. Gene was a member of the Heartland Honor Flight to Washington DC in 2008.
Gene was an avid sports fan, he loved all sports especially Nebraska Football, Volleyball and the Kansas City Royals.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers & sisters-in-law: Ernest (Kay) Staack, Orville (Ruby) Staack, Brothers-in-law: Owen Tehee & Mike Eden.
Gene is survived by his wife; Joan Staack; Children: Connie (Rodger) Dean, Pam (Fred) Armknecht, Terry (Niki) Staack; Grandchildren: Jake (Tasa) Armknecht, Nicki (Matt) Michel, Jeff (Sarah) Dean, Tim (Sandy) Dean, Ashley (David) Schlake, Cody Staack and Great Grandchildren: Broden, Cole, Kyson, Seth, Natalie, Kylie, Kade, Logan, Rees, Lexi, Crew, Conner, Landyn, Lilly, Laynee; Brother-in-law Louis (Grace) Bentzinger, Sisters-in-law: Gayleen Eden, Eleanor Tehee, and Margaret Damme.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10:30 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Cook. Burial will follow at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22nd from 9 A.M. until 9 P.M. with family greeting friends and relatives from 6 – 7:30 P.M. at the funeral home in Syracuse.
