Everett A. Baker was born on August 9, 1921 in Sidney, Iowa to Walter and Ruth (Means) Baker. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Lexington Assisted Living Center in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 26 days.
Everett was raised in Iowa and attend school in Hamburg, Iowa where he graduated. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during World War II. In 1947, he was united in marriage to Betty Buttercase in Hiawatha, Kansas. Everett worked in the construction business for many years, doing electrical and plumbing work. He also worked for the Unadilla and Syracuse Schools as a Maintanence person and a school bus driver.
He is a member of the Unadilla Christian Church, Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion of Syracuse and Eagles Club of Nebraska City. Everett is a former member of the Unadilla Volunteer Fire Department, served in the Village Board and was Mayor of Unadilla. He and Betty also owned the restaurant in Unadilla for a few years.
He is survived by his Children: Randy Baker and wife Rheeta of Big Lake, MO; Dennis Baker and wife Sharon of Eagle, NE; Bryan Baker of Lincoln, NE; Colleen Cole and husband Tim of Lincoln, NE; Grandchildren, Birkley Baker of Elmwood, NE; Brenda Baker of Buffalo, WY; 9 Great Grandchildren. Sisters: Ramona Buttercase and husband Lynn of Rockport, MO; Eula Neeley of California, Brother-in-law: Lloyd Buttercase and wife Susie of Sidney, IA
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty Baker, sister, Vera Collins, sister, Ruby Hayes .
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Unadilla Christian Church in Unadilla, Nebraska with Rev. Any Degolyer officiating.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 6th from 3:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and Friday, August 7th from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Unadilla Cemetery.
