Fern L. Will Rhoten was born on February 9, 1920 in Silver City, Iowa to William H. and Eva S. (Hort) Maddocks. She passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Aberdeen Village in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 89 years, 6 months and 23 days.
Fern was raised in Iowa and spent 31 years there. She enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII as a registered Nurse. She met and married Frank S. Will on December 6, 1947 in New York City. Frank passed away in 1962 and she later married Carlton Rhoten on April 25, 1965. They lived in Nebraska City and finally made their home in Syracuse. While in Syracuse, Fern worked as a registered nurse at Community Memorial Hospital and also the Good Samaritan Center.
She has lived the last five years near her daughter in Olathe, Kansas. She was a member of the Massie Richards Post #100 American Legion and Mid Otoe County V.F.W. #5547, United Methodist Church on United Methodist Women's group all of Syracuse.
She is survived by her children, Fredrick Will and wife Joyce of Minden, NE; Roger Will and wife Jeanie of Lincoln, NE; Eva Will Fees and husband Jym of Olathe, KS, Step children, Elberta Porter and husband Jim of Omaha, NE; Carlton Rhoten and wife Kathy of Papillion, NE; Kathleen Westerfield and husband Claude (Wes) of Farrigut, IA; Larry Rhoten and wife Bonnie of Columbus, NE; Sister, Edna Wolph of Waverly, NE 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Also survived by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Frank Will and Carlton Rhoten, brothers, Ralph Maddocks and Wayne Maddocks and 3 grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse, with Rev. Tony Dawson officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 2nd from 9 AM until 9 PM and Thursday September 3rd from 9 AM until 9 PM at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse, NE.
Memorials may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or the Veterans of Iraq War, Forty and Eight Nursing Scholarship and S.E. Community College Lincoln, NE.
