Obituary

Floyd Leslie "Jake" Renner was born at Weeping Water, Nebraska on February 24, 1925. Son of John Emmanuel and Lena Margaret (Hinck) Renner. He passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 9 days.
Jake grew up in Weeping Water and graduated from Weeping Water High School with the class of 1943.
Just prior to graduation, Jake entered the Army, he was a paratrooper in the 17th Airborne. Serving in the European Theater. He participated in the "Battle of the Bulge". He spent time in England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland and Germany. He also went in Austria on special detail. He spent time in South East Asia in the Philippines. He went from Europe to the Philippines by way of the Panama Canal. He was awarded many medals among them the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

After his Certificate of Disability Discharge (CDD) he returned to Weeping Water, NE. He married Bonnie McVay on April 6, 1947. To this union 2 sons were born Ronald Robert and Michael James. Mike died in January 1969 and Bonnie died in August 1971. Jake and Susan King were married on June 29, 1974 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Jake was an electrician and retired from Ash Grove Cement Company in Louisville, NE on May 31, 1984 with 31 years of service. Jake's interests, other than family, community and friends were hunting, especially on the Platte River and fishing. One of his mottos was "If it Flies, it Dies." Jake was shot many deer, antelope, ducks, geese, turkeys, pheasants, quail and squirrels. He was a member of the American Legion Post #353 in Louisville, NE; DAV; V.F.W. Post #2543 of Plattsmouth and a member of the Plattsmouth Eagles Club F.O.E. #365.

Survivors are Wife Susan Renner of Louisville, NE, Son Ron (Judi) Renner of Louisville, NE, Step Sons: Robert (Karen) King of Valley, NE, Bill King of Ft. Collins, CO, Step Daughter Diane (Tom) Akeson of Omaha, NE, and Son-in-law John (Ellie) Leggett of Sioux Falls, SD, 11 Grandchildren Kacy (Luis) Fortun, Tony (Bobbie Jo) Leggett, Tamara (Bill) Bernard, Sean (Angela) Renner, Angela (Jim) Nelson, Ryan (Christina) King, Stefani (Lonnie) Samuels, Ericka (Cory) Schilling, Kayla Renner, Annette (Marcus) Backer and Samantha Akeson. 22 Great Grandchildren Annallee, Hollie, Billy, Steven, Bryce, Ashlyn, Madelyn, Max, Ethan, Lilly, Jayden, Allysia, Trystan, Robert, Lucy, "Lil" Jake, Emma, Anna, Ella, Clara, Malia and Clare.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, Bonnie; sisters Pearl Ward, Blanche Ward and Elsie Boardman and brothers John and Robert, son Michael James.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Louisville, NE with Rev. Joel Plisek officiating.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 5th from 11:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends from 6-8 P.M. at the Funeral Home in Louisville.

Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery in Rural Louisville, NE.

Memorials may be directed to the Louisville Senior Center, First United Methodist Church or American Legion Post #353.
