Frank L. Forbes Jr., 94 of Lincoln, formerly of Syracuse, passed away January 5, 2025, in Lincoln. Frank was the fourth child born to Frank Sr. and Elsie (Appenzeller) Forbes near Akron, Colorado, on November 21, 1930. He attended the Lone Valley School north of Rago when he began first grade in 1936. Mrs. Mercer was his teacher. Later he attended the Prairie View School. From 1954-1956 Frank served in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas and also Fort McClellan in Alabama.
Following his honorable discharge, he enrolled in Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he majored in elementary education. Frank spent 35 years as a career educator, mostly in small, rural elementary schools where he was both principal and the only teacher. He helped to shape the lives of hundreds of students who now serve their communities, their families, and their country with skill and integrity.
On October 27, 1957 Frank was united in marriage to Myrna Lorraine Banta at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Torrington, Wyoming. They were married for 61 years. To this union were born three children, Brian, Bruce and Brenda, who were raised in a home filled with books, music, hard work, and hard play.
After teaching for 15 years in Tennessee, Frank moved his family back to Nebraska in 1979, where he taught until his retirement in 1996.
Frank was predeceased by his wife, Myrna in 2019, his sister Winifred Forbes Carpenter, and three brothers: Merlin, Donald, and Robert (Bob) and their wives.
Survivors include son Brian (Kiley), son Bruce (Lisa), and daughter Brenda (Gary) Dickerson, all of Lincoln; grandchildren Kelti (Travis) Barcelow of Vermont, and James (Estelle) Dickerson of Utah; great-granddaughter Rylie Rae Barcelow; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 10th at 2:30 p.m. at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse. A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, at the Piedmont Park Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lincoln with Pastor Michael Halfhill officiating.
At Frank's request, in lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established at Union Adventist University.
