Gary B. Royal ("Biggs"), 75 of Syracuse, passed away on August 26, 2024 at the Syracuse Area Health Hospital. He was born on February 16, 1949 to Raymond "Tom" & Marion (Whitehead) Royal in Lincoln, NE. After graduating from Syracuse High School, he attended UNL for a Ag Farm Short Course. He also served 6 years in the Army Reserves.

On August 6, 1994 he married Joyce Johnson in Nebraska City and became a Dad to Tricia and Bradley. Together they supported each other and created a life together.

Gary's roots to the earth ran deep. He started farming with his father at an early age and remained a caretaker of the land until he passed away.

He spent over 20 years being a disc jockey for Biggs Sound for a variety of events. His love of music was profound. Fishing was a passion for him. After his health prompted him to retire from farming, he enjoyed fixing up Rods/Reels to give away to kids or any friend that needed one.

Biggs was fortunate to have adopted a dog named Boo that became his Service Dog and who he loved dearly. They belonged to Healing Hearts Therapy Dogs and spent time providing support therapy to kids learning to read, area college students facing finals and people in the local hospitals. Together they enjoyed providing Bingo to Linden View and Good Samaritan Care Centers. Boo had a calming effect on all that knew him. Gary loved to be around people and make connections. Even in declining health, he lived his life to the fullest. Loving and Laughing with all that knew him best. He and his Dad jokes will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Royal, stepchildren Tricia (Jason) Schuett and Bradley (Brian) Fallstrom; sister Connie (Jim) Larkin, brother-in-law Mike (Shelly) Johnson; sons Randy (Lesley) Royal, Tom Royal and daughter Amy Steggall; grandsons Josh Royal, Mason Royal and Jake Royal; nieces Heather (Frank) Heath and their children Raven Heath and Ian Heath, and Dr. Jessica (Dr. Daniel) Weido; nephew Vincent (Jackie) Larkin and their children Levi, Ari, Noah and Hallie; and his father-in-law Duane Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Patricia Johnson.

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the St. Paulinus Facebook page. A rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. also at the church.
