Obituary
Gary B. Garey was born, June 27, 1931 in Oxford, Nebraska to Everett & Mildred (Harlan) Garey. He passed away on Sunday morning December 2, 2012, at his home, at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 5 days.
Gary married Rose Theresa Metz, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, and to this union they raised four children, Steven, Mindy, Kevin, and Tammy. He worked for the University of Nebraska as a County Extension Agent for 34 years, Nebraska Crop Improvement Association for 20 years, but a few of his Associations: National Association of Extension 4-H Agents (Treasurer) ~ Gama Sigma Delta – National Agriculture Honor Society Member ~ Epsilon Sigma Phi member ~ President of University of Nebraska Agricultural Alumni ~ Awards: Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of Extension 4-H Agents – Distinguished Services Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents – Outstanding Services Award Capitol Pork Producers & International Nebraska Partners Organization where they hosted six Brazilian Guests, was active in International 4-H Programs. One of his proudest accomplishments was being a founding member of the Nebraska Extension 4-H Section.
Gary is survived by his wife Rose, of Syracuse, NE, Steven (Ann) Garey, of Polk, NE, Mindy (Allan) Vyhnalek, of Columbus, NE, Kevin (Barbara) Garey, of Pyeongtaek, South Korea, Tammy (Galen) Gerdes, of Grand Island, NE, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, brother E. Marsden (Marilyn) Garey, of Papillion, NE, sister Marolyn (John) Moore, of Lincoln, NE, and sister-in-law Delores "Bunny" Metz, of Overland Park, KS. also many nieces, nephews and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents Everett & Mildred Garey
Memorial Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Thursday December 6, 2012 at United Methodist Church, 6th & Chestnut Street, Syracuse, Nebraska. Family Suggests Memorials to United Methodist Church, Syracuse, NE ~ Nebraska 4-H Foundation ~ American Cancer Society
VISITATION: 9:00 A.M. till 5:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 4th & Wednesday December 5th all at the Funeral Home, NO Viewing due to Cremation.
