Gene M. Carper, 76 of Burr, passed away on September 12, 2025, at Bryan West Hospital in Lincoln. He was born on April 30, 1949, in Nebraska City to Denzel and Ferne (Cameron) Carper. After high school, Gene joined the Army Reserve and served his country for six years.

Gene grew up on the family farm near Syracuse, where he developed a strong work ethic. He later became a truck driver and, for the last ten years before his retirement, he drove for Johnsrud Transport.

He was a member of the Southeast Nebraska Antique Tractor Pulling Association and enjoyed spending time riding motorcycles, hunting, and attending NASCAR races.

He is survived by his sons, Justin Carper and Brent Carper; siblings Jerry Carper, Robert (Lori) Carper, Michael (Jennifer) Carper, and Teresa (Don) Goracke; along with nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharron Wilken.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hopewell Cemetery. A gathering with family will follow at the Burr Community Center.

Memorials are suggested to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
