George Franklin Griffin was born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 7, 1928 to Albert and Hallie (Noell) Griffin. He passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home in Louisville at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 21 days.
George attended the Murray Grade School and graduated from Louisville High School. On November 30, 1948, George married Phyllis Jean Youngquist in Louisville, Nebraska. Together, they raised 4 children – Georgia, Gay, Mark, and Michael. He worked at Ash Grove Cement Company for 33 years, retiring as foreman. George was an excellent appliance repairman, fixing just about anything or any brand that needed to be fixed. He enjoyed camping, golfing, birds, spending time with his wife and family, going out for breakfast, and watching auto racing. He cheered for the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He served on the Board of the Senior Citizen's Center in Louisville. George was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Louisville's Rod and Gun Club. In retirement, he worked for the funeral home in many capacities – visitation, night-time calls, funeral services, and fix-it repairman.
Relatives surviving George include children Georgia Jean and husband Eugene Black, of Eagan, MN, Gay Lynn Cartmill, of Ashland, NE, Mark N. and Cindy Griffin, of Louisville, NE, and Michael R. Griffin, of Fremont, Numerous Grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.
He was preceded in Death by his parents Albert & Hallie Griffin, infant son, and wife Phyllis Griffin on July 10, 2002.
Services for George Griffin will be Tuesday, July 31 at 2:30pm at the First United Methodist Church in Louisville. Burial at Riverview Cemetery in Louisville will be at a later date. Visitation is Monday from 1- 9PM at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials are suggested to Family's Choice.
